Designed by Galeazzo Alessi and built from the second half of the 16th century with the contribution of Jacopo Barozzi da Vignola, the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli houses the Porziuncola, the most sacred place for Franciscans, as it was the chapel where Francis of Assisi used to pray.
