According to mediaeval legend, it is inhabited by the ghost of Guendalina Malatesta, known as “Azzurrina”. Popular beliefs aside, the castle is of Roman origin, but became more important after being fortified by the Malatestas (Lords of Rimini) as defence against the nearby enemies of Montefeltro.
