Full day with guide dedicated to Assisi and Perugia. Starting from the town of birth of St Francis, the first stop is at the Basilica, built over his tomb and skilfully restored after an earthquake. The Piazza del Comune takes us back in time with its mansions dating back to the Middle Ages. The visit continues with the Basilica of St Clare, the founder of the Poor Clares and buried in the church where the crucifix that spoke to St Francis is still conserved. Lunch in a restaurant, then continuing to Perugia, the capital of Umbria. The city centre has a host of attractions from many different periods, with the Fontana Maggiore fountain, a masterpiece of Gothic sculpture, the Palazzo dei Priori, the town hall that dates back to Perugia’s golden age, the Etruscan Arch from the 3rd century BC, and the Rocca Paolina fortress, with its unexpected but fascinating underground passages. Return to hotel in the late afternoon for dinner and overnight stay.
