Day 1 :

Lisbon

Arrival in Lisbon. Meeting with the guide and transfer to hotel, free time, dinner and overnight stay in hotel.

Day 2 :

Lisbon

Breakfast and full day dedicated to a guided visit to the city, with the centre, the São Jorge Castle, the Cathedral, the Alfama fishermen’s quarter with its narrow alleys, the Santa Maria de Belém district, with a short visit to the National Coach Museum, and the church of the Jerónimos Monastery. The day ends with a panoramic visit to the Park of the Nations. Lunch in a restaurant during the tour, dinner and overnight stay in hotel.

Day 3 :

Lisbon/Évora/Monsaraz/Lisbon

Breakfast and departure for Évora, the capital of the province of Alentejo. Circled by a ring of defensive walls ever since Roman times, today Évora is a city rich in historical and artistic traces of the past and a busy centre for agriculture and business, with its arches, white houses, floral terraces and patios with decorated tiles. Visits to the Cathedral, the Roman Temple, the St Francis Church and the Chapel of Bones. Lunch in a restaurant, with the tour continuing in the afternoon to visit Monsaraz, a particularly attractive village near the Spanish border. Return to Lisbon for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4 :

Lisbon/Cascais/Cabo Da Roca/Sintra/Óbidos/Caldas Da Rainha

Breakfast and departure for Cabo da Roca (Cape Roca), the westernmost point of the European continent, and called Promontorium Magnum by the Romans, continuing to Sintra, a fascinating town set in a landscape that includes rocky cliffs and luxuriant gardens, and once the summer residence of the kings of Portugal. Visits to see aristocratic mansions, palaces built on hilltops and in the woods, and the Pena National Palace. Lunch in a restaurant, then continuing to Óbidos, the name of which derives from the Latin “oppidum” for “citadel”, situated near the ancient Roman city of Eburobrittium. The town is enclosed by fortified walls that are still intact, and the main street is lined with picturesque white houses outlined in green and blue, with floral balconies that make it even more attractive. Stroll through the mediaeval streets and departure for Caldas da Rainha. Dinner and overnight stay in hotel.

Day 5 :

Óbidos/Alcobaça/Nazaré/Batalha/Fátima/Coimbra

Breakfast and departure for Alcobaça, a city in an area of orchards and vineyards between Leiria and Óbidos, not far from Batalha, and situated at the confluence of the rivers Alcoa and Baça. Visit to the Monastery and the tombs of King Peter I and Inês de Castro, then continuing to Nazaré, famous for its traditional fishermen’s clothes and colourful boats. Lunch in a restaurant and departure for Batalha, which takes its name from an important battle fought locally. Visit to the church and monastery, masterpieces of Portuguese Gothic architecture, and then continuing to Fátima, a major pilgrimage destination, with a visit to the shrine. Departure for Coimbra for check-in at hotel, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 6 :

Coimbra/Porto

Breakfast in hotel and visit to Coimbra, a city built on the hill near the Mondego River. Visit to the Cathedral, the Santa Cruz Church and the old university, then continuing to Porto, Portugal’s second largest city, for lunch in a restaurant. Visits to the Cathedral, the St Francis Church and the Ribeira quarter, ending with a port wine tasting session at a winery in Vila Nova de Gaia. Return to hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 7 :

Porto/Braga/Guimarães/Penafiel/Porto

Breakfast and departure for a visit to Braga, an old city known as the “Portuguese Rome”, and also famous for its university, then continuing to Guimarães, an important centre for textiles, commerce and craftwork, and above all for goldsmiths and knifemakers, situated in the green and mountainous landscape of Minho, one of Portugal’s historical regions, with visit to the Ducal Palace. Lunch in a restaurant and afternoon visit, to the Quinta de Aveleda estate in Penafiel. Return to Porto for dinner and overnight stay in hotel.

Day 8 :

Porto/Lisbon

Breakfast in hotel and transfer to Lisbon airport.
