Catacomb of Callixtus

Built in the late 2nd century, with private Christian hypogeums, the catacomb is part of a complex of catacombs with tunnels where more than 50 martyrs and 16 pontiffs were buried. It is famous for the Crypt of the Popes and the tomb of Saint Cecilia, containing frescoes from the early 9th century.
