Located on the Italian side of the Trieste Karst plateau, it is the world’s largest tourist cave: the Grotta Gigante (Giant Cave) originated at least 10 million years ago and contains stalagmites with their characteristic “dish-pile” appearance, formed by water dripping down from high above.
