The Solfatara is an active volcanic crater (dormant for the last 2,000 years), part of the Phlegraean Fields, which emits sulphuric steam. The counterclockwise tour follows the perimeter of the crater and continues towards a well, mud pools, stone quarries, fumaroles and ancient stoves.
