Swabian Castle

The city’s iconic building was commissioned by Norman King Roger II in 1132 and rebuilt in 1233 at the behest of Emperor Frederick II. Surrounded by an ancient moat that runs along three sides, its defence walls, with large tapered bastions at the corners, date back to the Aragonese period.
